Resources
Please review before the Skype session.

You’ve all joined our Slack team (phdigital.slack.com). Download the Slack application for your smartphone. In the app, you can set your general Notification settings, under Settings. Choose the middle option to allow Direct Messages, Mentions and Keywords. Then you can change that for individual channels, by clicking the down arrow next to the channel name. Turn on All New Messages for the #news and #announcements channel and for any other channel for which you want to receive notifications.

To add new channels, on the Web, click on Channels to launch the channel browser. On the app, click on Slack icon top left and then click the plus sign for Channels. We’ll discuss.

  • Skype – please download Skype on a computer that has a webcam. For this meeting, find a quiet place where you can talk. Have headphones available in case we have audio issues. Using Skype on a desktop computer is preferred, although you can use the Skype app on smartphone or tablet. I will collect Skype names and set up a group for the call. Be logged in to Skype at the designated time, and Cindy will place the call.

Discussion
After the Skype, respond to the following questions on Slack.

  • In the #phdigitalintro channel, the 2018 Internet Trends report will come out this summer. What trends do you think will continue to be important in the new report and what trends do you think will be added? What trends do you see in hiring for tenure-track faculty, and how do they match up with technology trends? Create a link to one or more tenure-track positions that list emerging skills or concepts in the posting. Think about your goals for this workshop. What tangible outcomes do you hope to accomplish by attending? How can we help you to achieve these outcomes?
  • Also, if you have any additional questions about the PhDigital Bootcamp (schedule, logistics, Slack or other tools or other questions), please use the #questions channel.
  • Also, please fill out the PhDigital Bootcamp Self-Assessment.

And we’re off! We’re all looking forward to interacting with you over the next several weeks and seeing you in San Marcos on May 14.
